Dior | Precious Rocks 2017 Holiday Collection | 5 Couleurs Precious Rocks

Hello all,

Today we are FINALLY starting our annual holiday posts and this year we decided to start with DIOR!!!!!! Well we didn’t have much of a choice as they released it before all the other brands. BUT to be completely honest we probably look forward to Dior the most simply because they never disappoint.

So without further ado here is our take on the 5 Couleurs Precious Rocks palettes.

This year they have released two COMPLETELY different kaleidoscopic palettes with one focusing mainly on emerald shades and the other being a very ruby based palette. At first glance we were definitely drawn by the Ruby palette simply because the colour coordination of the palette is one that suits our liking more however it didn’t take long for us to realise that the Emerald palette actually comes out prettier. The Ruby palette is absolutely gorgeous but there is something that’s just a little bit more distinctive about the Emerald palette that catches your eye more.

The pigmentation of the two palettes are both divine but in our opinion the Emerald palette’s pigmentation is a bit finer so the colours show up more. We’re not saying that the Ruby palette’s pigmentation isn’t up to par, it is but if you were to compare to two you will instantly see the difference. But then again that might also be because we already own A LOT of palettes that are similar to Ruby so perhaps it might just be the sudden contrast of the shades in Emerald that really struck us.

However even though we say this, we still feel like the Ruby palette will do better simply because it’s a more versatile palette. Kind of a pity but don’t you agree?

The other detail we have to mention is how each shade isn’t just pressed into the palette, we love how they al have a prismatic design to it and not only does it make the overall palette seem even more limited than it is but it also adds to the overall aesthetics. That is until you’ve used it enough to completely flatten it. But it’s still nice to look at during the beginning stages.

There didn’t seem to be any difference in terms of formula or lasting power so we are just going to skip that entirely. Overall we absolutely love the two new palettes, we love the design, the colour coordination between the two and we love how this means that Christmas is even closer. If we must recommend a palette to invest in, we actually would recommend the Emerald palette simply because the shades are more limited and unique whilst as pretty as the Ruby palette may seem, it is definitely something you can probably find already lying in your makeup drawer. So if we must choose one palette, we both choose the Emerald.
