Hey guys! Continuing on with our favourites from 2016, today’s post will be on our top 5 mascaras from 2016. In 2016, we discovered a few new mascaras and found some new staples to add to our collection. So without further ado, here’s our top 5.
Diorshow Maximizer 3D
Ok, so this might not exactly be a mascara but more of a primer. However, we actually do not how to live anymore without this product! When it was first released in Australia, we weren’t able to get our hands on this product and we literally waited for around half a year for it to come back in stock. We were finally able to purchase it in the Hong Kong airport. That was how popular this item was! We found that this primer gives our eyelashes that extra boost and gives them more volume and curl when applying a mascara. This primer is also great for those days when you’re mascara is feeling especially dry. It acts as a base to make those dry mascaras somewhat useable. We also found that it makes our mascara stay on better which is obviously essential as you wouldn’t want it to smear or transition onto your skin through the day. If you’re someone who wears mascara everyday, applying a base or a primer like this protects your lashes and makes them less brittle. We found that after using this, our lashes became a lot softer. We would say this product is definitely a must!
Kevyn Aucoin “The Volume Mascara”
We would say in terms of volume and curl and whatnot, this mascara does not do much. However, this mascara is actually SO black and we use it as a last step because let us just tell you, this mascara does NOT BUDGE. This might actually be the most stay proof mascara we have ever used. To take off though, this mascara might be a bit of a hassle but a little bit of cleansing oil will make it come right off. For only $40 a pop, this mascara was definitely worth. It also gives your eyes that extra pop when applied on top of other mascaras and it also de-clumps your lashes for a cleaner look.
TOO FACED “Better Than Sex Mascara”
So, there are two formulas for this mascara. The pink bottle is the normal Better Than Sex while the blue is the waterproof version. Can we just say OH MY GOD. This has made such a difference in our life (lashes wise). After just one coat your lashes literally look like you’re wearing falsies. This not only adds volume, but coats your lashes so well they curl like no tomorrow. It actually gets every single one of your lashes and they become so defined and lengthened. Like we actually did not know our own eyelashes anymore! The original version, although the formula is a lot less clumpy and applies on smoother, it definitely is not smudge proof. If you have dry to normal lids it should be fine but if your lids are even a bit oily, we find that it completely comes off within an hour. The waterproof formula, however, a bit dry when applied, stays on all day and is definitely a life saver if you have oily lids.
YSL “Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll” & Diorshow Iconic Overcurl
We’ve actually made a post about the YSL Babydoll mascara before, for more details, please -> CLICK HERE <-. But if you have been reading our blog for quite some time, you might know that we LOVE YSL mascaras and so, obviously, the babydoll made it onto the list of favourites from 2016. We put this one together with the Diorshow Iconic Overcurl because we find that they are quite similar when applied. We find that both don’t really smudge although neither of them are waterproof. Both give a more natural look to your eyes as they both don’t really lengthen but does volumnise and give you curl. We find that both these mascaras are great when you’re on the go or is going for a more subtle or “no makep” look.
YSL “Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking”
Last but not least, we had to put in the Shocking. To read more about it, please -> CLICK HERE <-. But basically, this is one of our all time favourites. This mascara creates a more dramatic eye look and is great for building up. This adds SERIOUS volume and curls. For those with oily eyelids, we found that although not waterproof, this mascara really doesn’t smudge and is quite smudge resistant. One downside though, with all YSL mascaras we find they do tend to dry out quite quickly however, this mascara dries out the fastest.
